Jim Rohn (1930–2009) was an American author and speaker who spent over forty years teaching personal development. Tony Robbins credits him as his original teacher. What makes Rohn worth studying is how clearly he connects ambition to daily practice: learning, building skills, taking responsibility, and reviewing results. His focus is not only on what you achieve, but on who you become and how you live. Read these ideas as practical guidance, not guarantees. The value is in what you do with them.
💡
The major key to your better future is you. - Jim Rohn

1. The five major pieces to the life puzzle

Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced everyday
We must all suffer one of the two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

1.1 Personal Philosophy

This is all about “what you know” and “how you think”
The Formula: a few simple disciplines practiced every day
The Failure: a few errors in judgement repeated every day

The Seasons of Life

Life and business are like changing seasons
You can’t change the seasons, but you can change yourself.
Don’t wish for eaiser, wish your were better
Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills
don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.

Learn how to handle the winters

Prepare for the winter
  • dificulty, recession, or struggle.
  • sometime look like they will never end. But winter always passes.
  • Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.
  • Don’t wish for fewer problems; wish for more skills
  • Use winter to prepare, to read, to plan, to gather strength for the coming spring.

Learn how to take advantage of the spring

Take the advantage of the spring
Opportunity follows challenges
  • seize the moment.
  • Plant the seeds, and take massive action. Focus.

Learn how to protect your crops in summer

All good will be attacked
Every garden will be invaded
All value must be defended
  • All good will be attacked. Prevent the intruders from taking the good
  • Be vigilant. Pour on the water and the sunshine, but also guard against the weeds of negativity and distractions.

Learn how to reap in the fall without complaint

Learn how to reap in the fall without complaint if not doing well and without apologies if doing well
  • Take full responsibility for your harvest. Rejoice with abundant harvest, accept and learn if with meager harvest
  • Use harvest to invest in the next spring
you cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself

The Ant Philosophy

Ants never quit
  • never quit looking for a way to get where you’are supposed to go
Ants think winter all summer
  • Preparedness averts peril
Ants think summer all winter
  • stay positive. winter will not last forever
How much will an ant gather?
  • all he possibly can

1.2 Attitude

This is about “how you feel”. While philosophy is logical, attitude is emotional
  • Past: how you feel about the past (treat it as a school, not a club)
  • Future: how you feel about the future (approached with anticipation or apprehension)
  • Everyone: how you feel about others
  • Yourself: how you feel about yourself (self-worth involved in everything)

The disease of alttitude

Mental disease:
  • Indecision
  • doubt
  • Worry
  • Overcaution - timid approach to life - everything is risky, give it a go. Don’t ask for security, ask for adventure.
  • Pessimism - how ugly the person is - As you think, so you become
  • Complainting
Select with the right ingredients
Avoid the wrong ingredients
Start with thoughts

The day that turns your life around

Powerful Emotion:
  • Disgust
  • Decision
  • Desire
  • Resolve - promise yourself you will never give up - my baby will keep trying until they learns how to walk
Action, do how you feel

1.3 Activity

This is “what you do”. Philosophy and attitude are potential, but activity makes it real.
  • labor
  • plan
Get excited to do the things that are necessary
Start with little disciplines and build up the practice and muscle.

How to set goals?

Goal:
make a living vs design a life
Reasons
IF you have enough reasons,
reasons comes first, answers come second
personal reasons: recognition, respect, feeling,
nitty gritty reasons
Long range and short range
Long range: dream
Short range: confidence builder
Economic and personal growth
Economic, make a list of things that you want to check it off, celebrate your achievements, live it up. Self congratulation is a sign of maturity.
Personal growth
Work on your goals
A. Work on your goals
Many people work hard on their job, but not on their futures.
B. Write your goals down , you must be serious of your goals.
C. Check the size and kind of goals
Ask with mind, sincerely

1.4 Results

this is “what you get”
  • measure: measure constantly. don’t wait until the end of the year
  • adjust: whether if i need to change my activity or my philosophy
Take fully responsibility of what happened to you.
Its’ not what happened, but rather what you do.

1.5 Lifestyle

this is “how you live”. It’s learning how to live well.
  • Joy: lifestyle is the joy of the design of life.
  • Culture: it’s music, art, travel, and sophistication.
  • Sharing: learning how to share your bounty with others.

2. Three Steps to change your life

I. Find out how things work (money, job, work, AI, happy, everything)

  1. you need to find ideas by constant studying
  1. when you find it out, put it in your journal, repetition, repetition, repetition
  1. Be curious to find out opportunity, childish curiosity
    1. Read - become self educated - 30 mins a day - don’t be a follower, be a student
    2. Get around successful people and listen/observe it all
      1. Success leave trails
  1. Let the life set up.
    1. Ignorance is tragedy, a defect.
    2. to keep you from getting hurt
    3. you don’t have to like it, but you should know it and get the information.
    4. Nothing is worse than stupid.
    5. then you get the benefits

II. Go to work

  1. Get excited to make yourself to do the necessary things
    1. Get little ones and lead to large ones. Get disciplines and build the muscles. If you don’t have the small ones, you can’t take the big ones
  1. Self motivation
  1. Actions, instead of just knowledge

III. Don’t try to beat the system

  1. Find out how things work the best and do your best to be that.

3. Six laws

3.1 Law of value

you don’t paid by time, you paid by market value
Value makes the difference. You can’t get more time, but you can create more value.
We primarily paid by the value, not the time.
Could you make 3X value with the same time?
Learn to work harder on yourself than on your job.

3.2 Law of attractive

you don’t purse success, you attract success

3.3 Law of use

if you don’t use it, you lose it

3.4 Law of sow and reap

Whatever you reaped is what you sew.

3.5 Law of student

don’t be a follower, be a student

3.6 Law of the system

don’t beat the system, let the system work the best for you

4. The Making of a Leader

Communication

4 Keyword:

  • Interest: for life and people, collect materials and observations
  • Fascination: do deeper instead of scratching the surface
  • Sensitivity: let life touch you, feel other scenarios, feelings, faith
  • Working knowledge: systematic record feelings, knowledge, knowhows.
Good communciation comes from long-term compound of inner knowledge. Share on the tip of the iceberg. The bottom of the iceberg is backed with your life, knowledge, understanding and fee.

4 Steps:

  • have something good to say, based on your reservoir built before. Research. Get ready and prepare. good communicatoin need to prepare. Journals, notes to collect ideas
  • Say it well. conscious repetition and participation. Sincerely, accurately. Say it with style (gesture, hand, eye contact). Be a student to the style. practice to say it well. more clearly, more freely. correct the errors consciously.
  • read the effect your have on the audience
  • Intensity: strong feelings. 20% of you know and 80% of how you feel. Feeling and emotions are strong changers. Words load with emotions are the best bet.
don’t substitute words for actions. don’t substitute actions for words
